June 2002.

251-0226 viewsNelson Point, BHP's recently retired Goninan WA ALCo C636 to GE C36-7M rebuild unit 5506 awaits its fate. Rebuilt in 1987 at Goninan's Welshpool factory from 1969 AE Goodwin built ALCo C636 with serial number G6012-4 and road number 5455 and assigned new serial number 4839-01 / 87-071. It was delivered in Mt Newman Mining orange and was named Mt Whaleback, then in 1991 5506 emerged in BHP livery carrying Ethel Creek, it was later changed to Mt Goldsworthy, it was also one of three units to carry the Goldsworthy Joint Venture lettering. 22nd April 2000.

This was the first unit in the world to be built into a C36-7 from an ALCo C636 locomotive. It was rebuilt 1987 from AE-Goodwin built ALCo C636 numbered 5455 with serial number G6012-4.
