256-0814 viewsMaitland Siding on the Cape Lambert to Deepdale railway has a late afternoon empty train with the quad CM40-8M working of 9425, 9410, 9420 and 9414 in the siding waiting for a cross with an opposing loaded train. At the time of this image Siding 3 or Murray Camp was unable to cross ore trains so Siding One - Harding or Siding Two - Maitland were used. May 2002.

256-2214 viewsMaitland Siding, Robe River CM40-8M unit 9417 (2nd) leading an empty train into the passing track. 9417 was the first CM40-8M rebuild carried out by Goninan in 1989, it was originally an ALCo built C636 unit for Spokane Portland & Seattle numbered 340 with serial number 6010-1, it went onto to be Burlington Northern 4366 and then purchased for Robe River in late 1980 as a parts source. When finally rebuilt by Goninan in June 1989 it had new serial number of 6266-5 / 89-83 and replaced the original 9417 which was scrapped in 1979. May 2002.

256-3314 viewsAt the 89.6 km grade crossing the loaded train behind the quad CM40-8M working of 9414, 9420, 9410 and 9425 rolls across the crossing and heads down the 1.26 percent grade. 9414 was built by AE Goodwin NSW as an ALCo M636 model in December 1971 with serial number G-6060-5 and part of the original order for five units. Locomotive was delivered to Robe River in January 1972 with Bechtel Pacific road umber 262.005 for construction use and was renumbered 1714 when that was completed. 9414 was rebuilt by Goninan WA in November 1991 to become an CM40-8M model with serial number 8206-11 / 91-124. May 2002.

Donated to Mt Newman Mining Co. by AMAX an original joint venture partner to commemorate the projects first 100 million tonnes of iron ore railed between Mount Whaleback mine and the Port Hedland port. 12th of April 2002.

Recoded to VTHX in 1979. After a period of storage ended up in National Rail ownership for Alice Springs traffic, now Pacific National ownership.
