The straddle crane is a newish unit built by Vaia Car model no. TCR-V and the four wheels are chain driven, replacing the original Gemco hydraulic unit.

May 2002.

200914 7803493 viewsPilbara Railways Historical Society museum, bogie view of former Cliffs Robe River Iron Associates RSC-3 model ALCo locomotive built by Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) in 1951 for NSWGR as the 40 class 4002 serial 77733, purchased by CRRIA in 1971 and numbered 261.002, then 1705 and finally 9405. 4002 is preserved in an operational state and another claim to fame is it run the Royal Train in NSW February 1954. Donated to the Society in 1979. 14th September 2020.

247-10493 viewsCape Lambert, Robe River's 9426 a Comeng WA rebuild from ALCo Schenectady NY model C636 serial 3499-3 originally built in January 1968 for Pennsylvania as #6332, Penn Central 6332 and finally Conrail 6782. Purchased in 1986 and rebuilt by Comeng WA into C636R before delivery to Robe in November 1986. This loco also went on to become DR 8401 for construction of FMG's railway in 2007-08. Seen here in the South Yard dragging a loaded rake down to the car dumper. Approximate location of train is here. 22nd May 2002.

Lead unit 4327 'Hamersley' is from an order originally being built by Electro-Motive, London Ontario for BNSF, an US class 1 railroad, but BHP secured 10 of them during construction, this unit 4327 serial no. 20066862-056 was destined to be BNSF 9185 before coming to BHP, passes SD70ACe unit 4368 on the fuel tank shunt, a unit from the last order of 18 SD70ACe units for BHP Billiton from Electro-Motive, London Ontario, serial no. 20098203-013.

150523 8232491 viewsNelson Point Yard, I Area, waggon scrapping by Sims Metal, a fork lift carries waggon no. 3340, one of 350 waggons built in Romania of which only about 60 made it into service, the rest rusting away in a caged embargo area out on the Broome Road until they were scrapped some years ago. There is a connection with these waggons and Lang Hancock and his former mine McCamey's Monster, now known as Jimblebar.
